Thank you to Brookfield’s Lake Wallenpaupack Team, who donated $2,000.00 to the Lake Region Community Dock Foundation!

"Brookfield Renewable U.S., based in New York City, held a 2021 Holiday Giving Program to benefit families and children in need in the communities where we operate. Employees participated by donating a new, unwrapped toy or monetary donation to organizations within their community that were collecting toys for the Holidays. The Holiday Giving Program was a huge success across our U.S. sites. As a result of the success from Brookfield’s Lake Wallenpaupack Hydroelectric team, the team was able to donate $2,000.00 to a charity of their choice. The Wallenpaupack team chose the Lake Region Community Dock Foundation. Brookfield is pleased to support the Lake Region Community Dock Foundation who gives back to the community by helping families who face unexpected tragedies and offers support to local non-profit organizations."

The Lake Region Community Dock Foundation is a 501c3 private non-profit organization associated with the Lake Region IGA. It is funded by private donations and family contributions. For more information.

HAWLEY, Pa. — Back in the spring, we brought you the story of Carachilo Concessions. With few carnivals and fairs on the schedule, the business run by Leon Carachilo set up outside Lake Region IGA near Hawley. Many of the store's customers stopped for some food, and so did many drivers passing by.

Now that pandemic partnership has come together again to help the community.

"Leon's obituary, he said in lieu of flowers, please donate to the Lake Region Community Dock Foundation, so even in his death, Leon is still giving," said Irene Cooper of Lake Region IGA.

The request led to thousands of dollars being raised for the foundation, which supports projects in the Hawley area and helps families who have fallen on hard times.

"This year, we didn't have any plans for any fundraisers, but we were fortunate that we had made friends with the Carachio family who have lived here all their lives," said Jim Shook, Lake Region Community Dock Foundation.

In all, the Community Dock Foundation had $20,000 to give out. Some of the money went to Hawley borough departments. The remaining money helped two families dealing with personal tragedies. The Brindle family received a check to help with their medical bills, and the other went to Lydia Erk to help with bills after the unexpected death of her husband.

"It's nice to know that when somebody is in that much of need, and someone that goes through something so tragic and unexpected like that, it's good to know that people are there to help immediately for you," Skelton said.

The foundation has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars over more than a decade, and they hope to be able to raise more money for years to come to support the community that has supported them.

"I love our community," said Aleah Shook of Lake Region IGA. "I love the fact that we are able to give back to those in need and help grow the community into a better place."

IGA Family and Leon Carachilo Family Come Together During Difficult Times

The Lake Region Community Dock Foundation helps two local families in a big way.

 Hawley, PA — 01/08/2022 —

Without the past fundraising events sponsored by the Lake Region IGA and the Lake Region Community Dock Foundation (LRCDF), monies to help local families has been scarce. Through the generosity of the Carachilo Carnival Food Trucks that have made a temporary home in the IGA parking lot, the funeral donations from the head of the Carachilo family’s Leon Carachilo’s passing, and the private contributions from the Shook Family, most of the Foundation’s work was able to continue.

Four thousand dollars was donated to the Hawley Emergency Services, six thousand dollars was donated to Hawley Parks and Recreation, and two families received five thousand dollars each to help with personal tragedies. The Brindle family received a check to help with their medical bills and the Erk family to help with bills after the unexpected passing of her husband.  Mrs. Erk is currently pregnant with their baby and having to deal with the loss of her husband and baby’s father at the same time. A loss none of us can imagine.

HAWLEY, Pa. — The Lake Region Community Dock Foundation usually holds a Cruisefest fundraiser every year to help raise money for families in need, but when it was canceled due to coronavirus concerns, volunteers found another way to make a difference.

The Foundation, along with help from the Shook Family, was able to raise $20,000 for families going through tough time.

"If it takes any pressure off of what they have to worry about one day, one week or one month we've done something good here," explained Lake Region IGA owner Jim Shook.

The Carachilo carnival food truck, located in the IGA parking lot, also made a large contribution.

Families were presented with the much-needed cash as part of the check presentation.

The Lake Region Community Dock to present checks to families in need June 27th 1pm

The Lake Region Community Dock Foundation will present checks on Saturday June 27th, 2020. With the cancellation of our major fundraiser CruiseFest, we lost a lot of revenue to help families in need. The Carachilo carnival food truck located in the IGA parking lot, made a large contribution and with the support of the Shook Family of Lake Region IGA and of Shooky’s Distributor’s, we were able to allocate $20,000 to help families in need. Special thanks to the Carachilo Family. The recipients will be Karl Keller, who is recovering from cancer treatments, Karen Krellwitz, who suffered a devastating house-fire and the loss of her husband, and the Sakmar family who’s son is undergoing life-saving surgery to correct a congenital heart defect at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

The check presentation will take place Saturday June 27th at 1pm in front of the Carachilo Family food truck at 74 Welwood Ave, Hawley, PA 18428.

CruiseFest is Cancelled for 2020 / Car Show, Motorcyle Ride and Clambake

We are sorry to announce that CruiseFest has been cancelled this year due to the Coronavirus Pandemic. We cancelled it to keep every safe and to not create large groups of people all together. Tennis/pickle ball grant raises questions

HAWLEY - Hawley Council approved partial payment from a DCNR grant for the tennis/ pickle ball court project, but it was conditional on knowing how this will affect future uses of Bingham Park.

HAWLEY - Hawley Council approved partial payment from a DCNR grant for the tennis/ pickle ball court project, but it was conditional on knowing how this will affect future uses of Bingham Park.
The discussion ensued at the July 10th Council meeting, after a presentation about the dual projects in the northwest corner of the park, nearest the corner with Main Avenue and Hudson Street: reconstruction of the present tennis courts and the neighboring softball field.
It came up at the meeting that certain deed restrictions come with the funding for the tennis project, that speaks of restricting non-recreation use of the site. Council needed to know to what extent this applies and to confirm if exceptions can be granted. The park is frequently the place for activities not related to recreation in the same sense as sports or athletics, such as the farmer’s market, arts and crafts fairs and the new this year: the free summer lunch program for children.
Borough Solicitor Robert Bernathy was tasked with researching the matter and reporting back to Council with his findings.

$70,000 grant

Joseph Adams and James Shook, representing the group of local citizens and civic leaders that proposed and are helping to coordinate the comprehensive upgrade of Bingham Park, brought an update and requests before Council in July. The group made the proposal in 2017, which was ultimately approved by Council in March 2018. Shook also volunteers with the Borough Parks & Recreation Commission.
The tennis upgrade also involves installation of a new amenity, a pickle ball court. The project is partly funded through a $70,000 grant from the PA Department of Conservation & Natural Resources (DCNR).
Council was asked to vote on a partial payment request of $35,000 so the project can begin, once a contractor is secured. Adams said that they would be ready to go to bid on August 1, 2019, and hopefully be able to finish the project by this fall. Lake Region Community Dock Foundation, overseen by Shook, is contributing $5,000 for the match required for the first half of the DCNR grant.
